Archive: 1st Annual Halloween Extravaganza!

Well it’s in the magical Mind Cemetery cardboard box so you all know what that means. That’s right, the 1st Annual Halloween Extravaganza is up and on archive for all time on the internet! We had a very busy show this week and even extended it a bonus 30 minutes to allow us the time to provide to you a very special treat… or was it a trick? The world may never know for sure but it will be our secret until you give the show a listen and find out for yourselves.

What we can tell you is that in our first Halloween special we managed to cover a slew of topics: A short discussion on the future of the Mind Cemetery podcast (it’s not going away it’s just getting started and from here on out it’s nowhere but up!), an eagerly awaited announcement that is also Top Secret, Nicole and I shared our past Halloween costume choices, talked about hot costumes this year for adults and kids in the form of a top 10 list, one really sick and creepy story about the space needle in Gatlinburg, TN, our Mordecai House tour here in beautiful downtown Raleigh, NC, Heard a recording of a presentation by NSPIR founder George Matthis about his encounters at the Mordecai House, and MUCH, MUCH, MORE!

WHEW! That was one heck of a run-on sentence huh? Well it is just the tip of the iceberg of the 1st Annual Halloween Extravaganza and we hope you manage to run whatever Titanic your driving right smack into it! So, without further ado, enjoy the show!

The first annual Mind Cemetery Halloween Extravaganza!

Welcome to the 2011 Halloween episode! Tonight we will play a recording of the Halloween events here in Raleigh that was hosted at the Mordecai House. While at the Mordecai house Nicole and I took part in a séance. We also were able to join George Matthis and his paranormal investigative organization, NSPIR, while h presented a slew of information that they have gathered in their investigations of the historic downtown property. During the presentation by
NSPIR we learned more of the haunted history of the Mordecai property an heard about 15 EVP recordings. There was also a video clip that was show where they caught a black entity passing in front o the cameras that was positioned in the stairwell.

We also will share some of our favorite ghost stories that we have found or experienced in our lives. Finally, we will share with you all the happy voices of various trick or treater’s and we find out this evening. What are the hot costumes for kids these days? What candy do they like to see in their baskets the most? If you see a kid in Yoda garb out and about in Raleigh then say hey!

Yes, that’s the official Mind Cemetery Pumpkin for 2011!

Tonight's Show: C.H.A.P.S. Ghost Stories and News

This weeks CHAPS wrap-up show will be a fun one for sure. At the Thursday 9-8-11 CHAPS meet-up in Raleigh we shared our own personal ghost stories. This was a great meet-up to go too. I got to see and hear a lot of evidence I have not seen before. Everything from personal accounts, EVP’s and even a few video clips including one form a home security system that was amazing. We talked about the Creedmoor home investigation and the Temple Theater investigation. I have some great information about the Creedmoor investigation and what we experienced first hand. I don’t think I have talked about what happened at that investigation to me personally but I know I posted the EVP sessions.

Nikki and George have the night off so it’s just Nicole and I telling our stories and replaying the meet-up for you as it happened.

Angel, Ghost, Or Electricity: Nicole's "Ghost" Story

I am a skeptic.  I make a conscious decision to be a skeptic because I rather not believe the boogey man is about to pounce.  I am scared of what could be so I live in a world where only I know what IS can jump on me.

The closest thing I have ever experienced to a paranormal happening occurred when I was about 8 years old.  I was at my grandmother’s house, which has been in her family for many years.  The house was built in the late 1800s.

She kept the soda down in the basement refrigerator.  I was deemed with the task of going down into the basement to get some more soda.  The basement is what you might imagine a root cellar to be like.  It has stone walls and a rough stone floor with thin, 70′s style orange carpet.  There is a long hallway to your back as you descend the creaky stairs that have too much space between the steps.  At the end of the hallway, there is a coal furnace, toolbench, and exit to the outside.  You have to duck to walk down the hallway.  The only light shines from a lonely 60 watt bulb hanging from a chair.  I creep down the stairs in my school uniform, including big knee socks with no shoes.  Instead of going down the hallway, I enter the main area of the basement, which holds two refrigerators, a washer and dryer, and an ominous-looking door to what has been dubbed as, “The Pot Room.”  (The origins of this name are a story for another day.)

I shamble over to the refrigerator, trying to glare down the hallway with its shadows that the lone lightbulb will never reach while also trying to stare at the creepy door (I have never laid eyes on what that door hides…).  My breathing quickens, I always think as soon as I turn to the refrigerator that door will creak open.  I take a deep breath.  There’s no such thing as monsters.

I step in front of the refrigerator and relish the way the carpet feels through my socks.  It’s cold and very wet.  Like all old cellars, this one takes on moisture.  I reach out towards the fridge handle.  The second my fingers grasp the handle, I feel arms wrap around my stomach. The lonely bulb blinks out.  In that second, I lose my air and I think, “It’s finally happened, the door has opened and the boogeyman has come to get me.”  I get tugged backwards so violently that the steel handle of the fridge rips off with me.  I am thrown into the washing machine, still gripping that cold handle with baby-poop-green plastic piping.  It remains unbroken, the large bolts holding it to the fridge have snapped.

A few seconds pass and I am still breathing, hurting, my waist hurts where I was grabbed.  I crawl on hands and knees up the stairs through the dark, too shaken to even look down the dark, dark hall.

I had been electrocuted.  The water I was standing in catalyzed a short circuit in the fridge.  Why I felt those arms, I don’t know.  My grandmother says it was my angel, keeping me from being electrocuted to death.  That’s not the only paranormal occurrence in that house, but it’s the only one that happened to me.
